April 2005 Newsletter
- This is a relatively slow month but an important month, elections are around the corner. Plans for a special service for the Unborn did not materialize, so come to join us for a quiet hour of prayer April 4th 7PM – 8PM.
- Go to the respective web page to obtain or print a copy of the calendar. To print full HTML page, from the print dialog box, go landscaped, remove headers and footers and make margins as small as possible to get the full page. NOTE any 1st degrees going to the 2nd and 3rd degree to Lee’s Summit should fill out the signup sheet on the web page www.stjames-liberty.org/kofc so we can get a head count and make arrangements to get you there. This generally includes a meal after the ceremony if you wish to stay, come join us! Last 3rd degree brought in 6 new full fledged Knights and I was very proud of all of you who attended.
- There are only a few of you signed up for the 4th Degree. I would hoped there would have been more, again it is an experience within the Knights that will really hit home. These only happen twice annually one in the northern and one in the southern part of the state. If any candidate would like to offer a ride to Fr. Joe please let him know soon.
-The Fish Fries were a mild success. Competition with other churches, events and illnesses hampered our success this year. The drawing helped by bringing in $809.00 - 280+ over expenses. A special thank you to our Co-chairs, Bill Henn, Shawn Souder & John Talbot as well as Mike Pallo on the raffle team. This mild success brings us the issue that we will need to discuss additional fund raising events because we did not meet our goals. If you have ideas on what can be done for fund raising come to the meetings and share your thoughts
- Again, we must all start thinking “who will be leading the council next term”, I am stepping down after two years as your Grand Knight (GK) to refocus on my family and business but I will be assuming the responsibilities of the Financial Secretary for a three year term, if appointed. We have two nominations for GK at this time, if you wish to nominate someone or wish to run for this position please go to the “Inquiry” and let your GK know ASAP.
- The First degree team is being formed and the first “kick off” session meeting is tentatively set for Thursday April 14th 6-7PM so that assignments can be made. We will finalize the date, time and the St Gasper Room at our meeting. If you have volunteered to be on this team please attend this meeting. The team kit is in and we are ready to start.
- Planning ahead –We are planning a “T” Bones ball game as a District wide event (for Knights and families). This event is planned for Aug 27th 7:00PM game on the third base side (Shaded). An online signup can be used with the “inquiry button” on our web page, so start planning for this fun summer event. Note all clergy are encouraged to attend “on the Knights” (free). Cost $12.00 per person which includes good food and drinks and possibly door prizes. GET YOUR RESERVATIONS IN FIRST because first come, first reserved – only 250 tickets will be purchased.
- As voted on during our last meeting the May 8th meeting will be moved to the 15th because of Mothers Day. Some of us will be attending a special Mass and reception for graduating Seniors. Also May will be our last 5th Sunday breakfast for this term
- We would like someone to step forward to go to the State Convention so that we are represented. I will not be able to go this year. If no one goes we will not be represented.
- 4th Degree Notes: 3rd degree candidates need to be at the Hilton on the 2nd prior to 12 Noon. Registration ends at noon. Anyone who will be attending as an observer must be in a tuxedo. If you plan to come let your Grand Knight know prior to the event. You also must be a 4th degree to attend as an observer, have your 4th degree card with you. You may come in your tuxedo or change in the rental / changing room. For all candidates and wives, come join us in the hospitality room anytime between 12 noon - 7PM.
