Cantors |
Cantors
The
principal role of the cantor is to lead the Responsorial Psalm. Typically,
new members
of the music ministry are committed first to one of the ensembles—choir,
music group, children’s choir. Depending on the other musical
needs of the liturgy, the cantor also leads the assembly’s responses
throughout the liturgy. Cantors are scheduled to serve about once a
month. Individual rehearsals are by arrangement with the music director. |
Adult
Choir
The St. James Adult choir is open to women and men (junior high
age and
older).
Voices of
all ranges (bass through soprano) are welcome. The choir typically involves
20-25 voices and is accompanied by piano or organ. The choir leads the assembly in a variety
of musical styles. The Adult Choir generally rehearses 1 ½ hours
per week (on Wednesday evenings) and sings on Sunday two or three times
a month. Contact the music director for more information.

Music
Group
The St. James Music Group is a smaller
(6-8 person) ensemble comprised of voices accompanied by various instruments
including piano, guitar, clarinet and flute (and other instruments as
available). The Music Group welcomes involvement of women and men (junior
high age and older). This group generally rehearses with the adult choir
on Wednesday evenings and leads the assembly at two or three masses
per month. The Music Group could be for you if you enjoy singing as part
of a small vocal group
or can contribute as an instrumentalist. Contact the music director to
become involved. |

Music Group |
Childrens'
Choir
The
St. James Children’s Choir
is open to boys and girls grades 2-6. The group rehearses on Saturday
mornings at 10:00 a.m. The Children’s Choir leads the assembly’s
song 1-2 times per month from fall to spring. It is directed by Carolyn
Wirtanen. She can be reached through the music director. |
Special Opportunities
St. James uses a variety of other instruments throughout the year. From
time to time, a Handbell Choir is used during the liturgy and individuals
who play piano and/or organ are always welcome.
Contact the music director if you are interested in contributing
your musical gifts in any way.
ALL ARE WELCOME!!
