St. James Parish Council Minutes
February 11, 2002

OPENING PRAYER:  Steve Gregoire

PRESENT: Doris Cadd, Lou Carey, Steve Gregoire, Anita Holt, Mike Klamm, Jerome Schieder, Chris Venditti, and Father Ron,

ABSENT:   Ed Barlett, Roger Holyfield, Annette Talbot, and Father Dien

The meeting was opened by Chairperson Steve Gregoire.  There was one correction to the January minutes.  Jerome Schieder noted Nola Culver will not be the point of contact for 2010 Project Strategy 1, Goal A, Action 1.  The minutes were approved after a motion by Doris Cadd, seconded by Jerome Schieder.  The February agenda was also approved.

AGENDA:

1)      Details for the Mardi Gras Appreciation Party on February 12th were finalized.  Steve said there were 26 reservations of Ministry Heads and volunteers.

2)      Candidates names for Parish Council elections were given by council members.  They will be invited to attend the March 11th regular council meeting.  Jerome suggested placing in the bulletin that if anyone is interested in the Parish Council they are welcome to attend the March 11th meeting.

3)      The Parish Feast Day Celebration to be held July 28th needs a chairperson.  Father Ron also asked council members for any different ideas for the celebration.  Chris Venditti suggested asking groups such as the Knights, Scouts or Youth Group to head the different activities.

4)      The 2010 Strategy Boards were updated.  Many goals and actions are complete or are in place.  Several points of contact were changed, and some of the goal dates were revised.

5)      A detailed report of the status of Strategy #2: Offer Diverse Spiritual Experiences, Goal C, was given by Doris Cadd.  She feels we have met many of the goals relating to providing a vast array of Catholic teaching resources.  She praised Howard Henry for doing a great job with the parish website.  She said she will remind the ministry heads to keep information on the website current.  Howard needs more information to attain the goal of having “Church 101” on the website.  We are meeting our goal of linking our parish website with other parishes as other parish websites become available.   Funding and space are factors in having a functional parish library/Catholic study room.  Books, tapes, and videos are available for checkout in the Narthex.  A link to the diocesan library isn’t available at this time as the diocese says you can come to their facility to search the card catalog on site.  A link has been put on the website that shows Mass times all over the country for parishioners who travel.  The bulletin and quarterly newsletter are being used as teaching tools, and they are also being included in our website.
