St. James Parish Council Minutes
March 13, 2000

 

 

OPENING PRAYER:  Ralph Agee

 

ABSENT: William Bednar, Adam Benson, Steve Gregoire, Erin Parrish, and Steve Wolcott.

 

The meeting called to order by Chairperson Sandy Turner.  The February minutes were approved as written.  The March agenda was approved.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

1.      Henry Parente was present for an update on the 2010 Project.  He and the core team put together an agenda for the kick-off party to be held Sunday, March 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Clayview Country Club.  He presented a vision exercise by using a flipchart to be used during the brainstorming sessions, and asked council members to be facilitators for each group session.    Also, he said it would be helpful if members would encourage their ministry groups to attend.  Anita Holt reported the invitations will be finished tomorrow, and asked for help labeling and sorting them for mailing hopefully on Wednesday.  Sandy, Anita, Ralph, and Kim volunteered to be facilitators.

 

2.      The Nominating Committee: Sharon Benson, Jo Krones, and Sandy Turner reported on the candidates they contacted to fill their expiring terms on the council.  Steve Wolcott wasn’t present to submit his nominees.  Several other possible nominees were suggested.  Sandy asked members to have a final slate of their candidates next month for elections are to be held at Masses the weekend of May 20 and 21.  It was mentioned that we would probably skip the June business meeting and have a retreat on a Saturday the latter part of June for new council members.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS:  None

 

Cindy Rogers presented an interesting video on Eucharistic Adoration, “The Power of His Presence”.  She is happy to report this ministry is growing very rapidly at St. James.  She also asked members to educate their ministry groups on the power of Eucharistic Adoration.

 

 

MINISTRY REPORTS:

 

Christian Formation: Ralph Agee - Reported the R.C.I.A. had the Rite of Election last Saturday, and would start scrutinies next weekend.  There has been much more participation in RCIA by moving the group to Sunday.

 

Human Concerns and Outreach: Sandy Turner– Handout submitted from Sharon Stauffacher on the Stephen Ministry group celebrating their 5th anniversary with cake and punch.  They welcomed 12 new Stephen Ministers on March 2nd .  Sandy reported they were disappointed in the turnout for the Target group program on February 28.  Only 18 attended.  She said the Northland Target Group has pretty much disbanded.  Anne Tucker and Nancy Gremli who have been active in the group are involved in other ministries.  Joann Ollier continues to keep up on other groups.  The Habitat for Humanity will be starting houses soon, and will be letting us know when they need some assistance.

 

Catholic Organizations: Jo Krones – No report

 

Stewardship and Administration: Kim Parente – No report

 

Liturgy: Steve Wolcott – Absent, but send handout outlining Liturgy Committee Guidelines recently drafted to limit the special events and presentations during the Sunday liturgy.  There will be more discussion before the final guidelines are implemented.

 

Education: Steve Gregoire – Absent, no report

 

School: Anita Holt – Reported the Read-a-thon recently held for the Third and Long Foundation raised over $3,000.  She said there will be 16 students participating in the Science Fair at Bartle Hall.  Registration for school will be next week.  The capacity is 325, and there are now 297 students enrolled.  There are 56 registered for Kindergarten with only 48 openings.

 

Youth: Sharon Benson – Handout presented noting activities of the Confirmation, and other youth groups.  She noted the numbers of youth coming to the youth faith sharing nights on Wednesday are good with several new registrations in January and February.  Rite of Covenant for 2nd year Confirmation will be during the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday, March 19th. 

 

Prayer: Cindy Rogers – Reported she was going to check on indulgences granted to certain Eucharistic Adoration programs such as St. Andrew’s Parish.

 

Communication: William Bednar – Absent

 

Parish & Family Life: Tim Laird – No report

 

 

PASTOR’S REMARKS:

 

Father Ron asked members to encourage their groups to attend the Parish Retreat.

 

 

Sandy noted a 2010 Project report would be given at the next meeting, and the nominees for election to the council will be submitted.

 

The next meeting will be Monday, April 10th, with opening prayer by Tim Laird.

 

Father Ron closed the meeting with a prayer.
