Talbot, Chris Venditti, Father Ron Will, Father Jim Urbanic, and Ken Oyen
ABSENT:

Diana Keck and Vincent DeMarco
The
meeting was opened by Chairperson Annette Talbot. The February minutes were approved after a motion was made by
Doris Cadd, seconded by Mike Klamm. The
agenda was approved after three additions: (1) Jerome needs help with project;
(2) Parish Feast Day; and (3) Annette’s request from Knights.
Father
Ron said, during a recent visit with Jim Danielson, retired Pleasant Valley
Baptist minister, he asked if St. James had a strategic plan and also asked if
he could analyze it. Father Ron thought
it was interesting to have an outsider give their impressions and suggestions
of our Project 2010. He also said Mr.
Danielson would be available to assist in future strategic planning if needed.
AGENDA:
1)
A review of Project 2010,
Strategy #1, was given by Jerome Schieder and Lou Carey. Goal A and C: Jerome stated they are still
working on getting a 24-hour access number, and someone to set up meal delivery
for new parishioners moving into the parish is needed. Some suggestions were given by Annette
Talbot and John Alvey to welcome new parishioners through some existing
ministries since we have several new families every month. Lou reported Goal B., Action #4, We will not
conduct an all-parish Mass this year as it will have to be budgeted next year.
Action #7, should be changed to “Gather new parishioner information at
Christmas and Easter so we can hopefully get contact information about
Catholics who visit us then by December 2001.”
This request will probably be included with the worship aid.
2)
The Prayer Cards for Lent
weren’t all taken at the Masses last weekend, so it was suggested they be
passed out as many probably missed the baskets they were in beside the worship
aids in the Narthex.
3)
Four names were submitted
for council member elections May 11th. Biographies and photos are needed by the April meeting. Four terms are expiring this year, so more
candidates are needed.
4)
The Parish Work Day headed
by Roger Holyfield will be April 12th at 9 a.m. Lou will get requests out to staff members
for projects needing attention.
5)
Update on Easter Masses
was given by Father Ron. He said the
musicians say it is too complicated to arrange simultaneous Masses at Easter,
so this Easter will be simulcast into the Social Hall as has been in the past
for the overflow Masses.
6)
Father Jim gave an update
on the William Jewell ministry. He said
they have had very good response, and the chaplain is very attentive to the
needs of the large number of Catholic students. A barbecue will be held for the Jewell students after the Sunday,
April 6th, 6 p.m. Mass.
Chairman of this ministry, Mike Jones, is getting a list of students,
and will contact them. Plans are being
made for fall activities.
7)
a) The Mardi Gras Appreciation Night March 4th
was cancelled due to the weather. It
was decided to reschedule for Tuesday, April 22nd 7 to 9 p.m. with a
Spring Fling theme. Plans will be
finalized at the April regular meeting.
b) Jerome asked for support for Hillcrest
Ministries annual walk-a-thon for the homeless May 17th at 8 a.m. Registration is at 7 a.m. He is sponsoring a team, and asked for council
members to participate.
c) Parish Feast Day
ideas were requested by Father Ron. He
said he needs an organizer for the event which the council set for Saturday,
July 26th after the 5 p.m. Mass.
d) Annette said the
Knights of Columbus ask if they could have an Easter egg hunt Easter
weekend. After discussion, it was
decided that after the last Mass on Easter would be the best time, about 1:30
p.m.
