St. James Parish Council Minutes
May 8, 2000
OPENING PRAYER:
Steve Gregoire
ABSENT: Adam Benson, Erin Parrish, Father Ron Will, and
Steve Wolcott.
Annette
Hedrick, Molly Doherty, and Larry Venneman were present to go over the proposed
budget for 2000-2001.
The
meeting was called to order by Chairperson Sandy Turner. The April minutes were approved after
motions were made by Anita Holt and Ralph Agee respectively. The May agenda was approved.
OLD
BUSINESS:
1.
An update on Project 2010
was given by Tim Laird. He said the
CORE group is meeting the fourth Sunday of each month, and they had a good
attendence on April 24. Each
subcommittee is going over and prioritizing ideas, then the CORE members will
attend other organization meetings to get their ideas and assistance to
implement needs of our parish. Tim
noted the committee has set an October deadline to report their strategic plan
to the Parish Council.
2.
Nominating Committee
Report: Final slate of candidates ready for elections at Masses next weekend. Some positions will be unopposed with only
one candidate running.
3.
The first Sunday evening
Mass will be July 2nd at 6:00 PM.
Discussion was held following some requests for the time to be later
than 6 PM. Council members opposed a
later time because they felt after 6 PM would be too late during the winter,
and don’t think it is a good idea to change Mass times for summer and winter
because it is confusing to parishioners.
4.
The June Parish Council
Retreat will be at the Precious Blood Center Saturday, June 24th
from 9 AM to 12 Noon. Diane Schutz will be the leader. If anyone has a topic for the retreat, call
the Parish Office. There will be no
regular June meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Annette Hedrick presented the Parish budget for the year 2000-2001,
and answered questions from council members concerning increases in
expenses. It was noted the proposed
budget increase is $168,000 for the coming year. She pointed out that staff salaries reflected a 3% raise which
are set by the diocese. Molly Doherty, Assistant School Principal,
was present to go over the School budget explaining salary, equipment, and
maintenance increases. Overall increase in the school budget is $95,100 for
year. She added enrollment is the same as last year at 292. They will look at recruitment to fill the
vacancies. Molly also noted at the end
of March school expenses are in line with this year’s budget.
