GUESTS: Ken Oyen and Clark Kelly
The meeting was opened by
Chairperson Annette Talbot. Doris made
a motion to approve the May minutes, and Chris seconded with all
approving. There were two additions to
the agenda by Annette. (1) Review
ministry assignments, and (2) Discuss beer around children issue.
PROGRAM: Clark Kelly representing
the Knights of Columbus was present to update the council on activities the
Knights support. He said they presently
have approximately 140 members, and 10% of any cash taken in at their events is
tithed back to the church. The Knights
are considering a Squires Program. This
is a leadership program for boys 10 to 18 years of age to encourage youth
involvement in the good that the Knights do. They are looking into its feasibility with other youth activities
in the parish.
AGENDA:
1) Discussion
was held on redirecting our financial support to another needy cause since we
have discontinued St. James midtown support at their request. A letter from Bishop Sullivan Center
requesting support has been received.
Father Ron also said there is a need for support to the Catholic
Charities Northland Homeless Project providing 60-90 day short-term housing for
the homeless. Mike made a motion to
donate $500 to the Northland Homeless Project, and defer making a decision on
other support at this time. Doris
seconded the motion, and all approved.
Discussion on a sister parish in the third world will be our September
program, and Mike suggested deferring our decision on support to the poor until
after that.
2) Lou
Carey updated the council on Project 2010, Strategy #1. She reported most actions in Goal A &
B are “In Place.” Mary Thomas is
the new point of contact for Goal B, Action #6 to increase the number of
greeters at holiday Masses to welcome parishioners and newcomers. Fran Riley is contacting “inactive”
parishioners and youth needing catechized through her evangelization efforts as
stated in Action #8. Goal C,
Action #1: Lou volunteered to assume the role of “Ministry Coordinator”
replacing Jim and Joanna Mooney. Action
#2 needs a point of contact for
establishing a “St. James Access number”, and Action #3 is being pursued
by doing more outreach to expand the numbers in our youth group. Action #4: The date for an all-parish
Mass will be extended to December, 2004, due to the long-range planning
necessary for a special event that will need to have budget approval due to
cost.
