St. James Parish Council Minutes
September 13, 1999

OPENING PRAYER:  Cindy Rogers

ABSENT:  Tim Laird, Kim Parente, Erin Parrish, and Sandy Turner.

The meeting was called to order by Father Ron.  There was a correction to the August minutes by Jo Krones that she understood the September meeting would be held the 9th since Sandy and Tim would be absent, but when the agenda was sent out it was set for the regular meeting night September 13th.  The September agenda was approved.

Ed Fierst was present to inform the council how well the new school year was going with their theme of “Building Relationships”.  He is enjoying his new position as school principal, and was very excited with the enthusiasm he has seen in the students as well as the parents.

OLD BUSINESS:

1)     Father Ron asked for volunteers from the members to attend a meeting at Our Lady of the Presentation Parish in Lee’s Summit on October 9 to exchange ideas with other parish councils.  Anita Holt and Cindy Rogers said they would attend.

2)     A video was shown by Father Ron on “Leave a Legacy” ideas through estate planning and wills.  Steve Gregoire and Anita Holt recently attended a presentation on this, and other council members agreed that these ideas should be taken to the ministry groups to raise awareness to parishioners to include charitable donations in their estate planning and wills.

NEW BUSINESS:

1)  Suggestions by council members for nominations for the Bishop’s Annual Awards included Rich and Christina Porter, Daryl Sweetland, Sandy Turner, and Jim and Ann Tucker.

2)  Fundraiser ideas were discussed for St. James, KCMO, for their BBQ sandwich sale.  It was also decided we would have a truck available in our parking lot every other month for donations to their Thrift Shop. Father will coordinate with their social services coordinator.

3)  Steve Wolcott distributed a handout of responsibilities of our Parish Director of Liturgy and Music, and asked the council to review the many duties involved with this position.  Further discussion will be held at next month’s meeting when Tyler is present.
