St. James Parish Council Minutes
October 11, 1999
OPENING PRAYER:
Sharon
Benson
ABSENT: Dick Brown and Kim Parente
The meeting was called to order by Sandy Turner,
Chairperson. A motion was made by Sharon
Benson to approve the September minutes, seconded by Anita Holt. There was an addition to the agenda by Steve
Gregoire to discuss St. James-KC wanting to have another barbecue after Masses
since there was much success in the one held recently.
PROGRAM: Tyler Henderson, Liturgy Director, was present to
update the Parish Council on his progress since assuming duties the first of
the year. He also discussed some goals
he has to include more musicians, possibly add a choir at the 11 a.m. Mass, and
is working on ways to shorten communion time.
He also said there will be training in October and November for more
liturgical ministers.
OLD BUSINESS:
1)
Tim
Laird gave recommendations of the Parish Goal Committee. He said the committee felt the goals do not
incorporate a strategic plan for accomplishments of the Parish Council. They
also felt some of the goals are parish staff goals. Sandy stated Kim Parente’s husband Henry had volunteered his
services to assist with strategic planning if the council desires. Father Ron, Tim, Anita, and Sandy will meet
with Henry when he is available to assist.
2)
Sandy
asked members to suggest parishioners for recognition in the parish
bulletin. Several volunteers were
mentioned.
3)
Steve
Gregoire said the St. James-KC barbecue last month raised $2,300, for their
social services, and asked if they could have another barbecue in
November. Council members approved, and
suggested November 14 when the Chiefs would be playing away from home.
NEW BUSINESS:
1) Highlights from the Parish Council workshop
were shared by those attending. Father Ron, Anita Holt, Tim Laird, Cindy
Rogers, and Sandy Turner all indicated they received some very good ideas from
the programs they attended.
