Each month St. James features a ministry. This month we are highlighting our Friends & Family Ministry.
Friends and Family Ministry
Families and individuals new to our St. James Parish sometimes feel that being the “new kids on the block” is a daunting experience. They want to feel “at home” in their new church, but aren’t sure how to go about it.
New parishioners are invited to new parishioners’ meetings where they are provided with information about our church. They are encouraged to “get involved” in one or more ministries. And then they are left on their own to figure it out.
The Mission of the Friends and Family Ministry …
is to help people feel like a part of our community as quickly as possible. One way to do that is to reach out to them and invite them to participate with us. This ministry is one way that we can be sure to open our doors and hearts to our newest members, fostering their sense of belonging in their new home, St. James.
Here’s Where You Come In
We are looking for parishioners who will sign up to volunteer to be mentors to our new parishioners. As a mentor your responsibility is simply to reach out to the new family or individual at least 3 times in the 3 months following their joining St. James.
Being a mentor is not a long-time commitment!
When you sign up, you’ll be placed on a list with other mentors. As new parishioners join our church, they will be paired with a mentor from the list. It could be several months before you are paired, depending on the number of new parishioners and the number of people who sign up to mentor. Once you are paired with a new parishioner, you’ll receive their contact information plus a list of ideas on how to reach out to them and help make them feel part of our St. James family.
How To Become Involved
Print a copy of the sign up sheet (see below), fill it out and turn it in at the Parish Office. Copies of the sign up sheet are also in the Narthex and in the Parish Office.
Please prayerfully consider reaching out and sharing your friendship with our new parishioners by becoming a mentor in this program.
