People volunteer in many ways and, the individual reasons for volunteering are almost endless. Probably the best reason of all — and it’s likely why most people volunteer — is to help others by making a difference and giving back to the organizations and churches to which they belong.

Meeting people and having fun are also good reasons to volunteer. Perhaps you’re retired with plenty of free time on your hands, maybe you have the summer off, or you just have some extra time in the afternoons or on weekends. No matter what your circumstance, volunteering can keep you busy. You’ll be able to meet new people and have exciting experiences, instead of sitting around being bored with little or nothing to do.

Whether you want to do your part or make your mark, there are many great reasons to volunteer. And those that benefit from your help will just be happy you did, no matter the reason.

Other Reasons to Volunteer include …

Healthy!
Experts report that volunteering can reduce stress when you focus on someone other than yourself. It interrupts usual tension-producing patterns.
It can actually strengthen the immune system when you bring optimism and joy to someone else.

Experience!
You can test out a career or gain experience in areas that you never thought you would be interested in.  It can also be a great resume builder!

Social!
Volunteering brings people together and unites people from diverse backgrounds to work towards a common goal.  It’s a great opportunity to meet new friends, while building camaraderie and teamwork with a positive outcome to be proud of.

Learning!
Volunteers discover hidden talents that may improve self-worth and confidence.

Giving Back!
People like to benefit their  people they care about.

Sense of Purpose! Find your purpose in life and figure out what your goals are.  Make someone else smile and feel special.

ALL IT TAKES IS ONE PERSON TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Loretta Kline says:

For more than 15 years, St. James parishioners have been driving residents of the Cedars assisted living home to 9:15 a.m. Mass on Sundays. A volunteer is needed for either the third or fourth Sunday of every month to drive up to three Cedars residents. The Cedars residents are able to be on their own during Mass; they just need a way to get there and back home. Cedars is located on Ruth Ewing Road between Hwy. 291 and Birmingham. If you can volunteer to drive, please email parishioner Loretta Kline at moc.l1542822234iamg@154282223416kat1542822234terol1542822234. Thank you!
