The Novena is traditionally, a nine day devotion, however in an effort to make it easier for Parishioners to attend during the busy Christmas season, the devotion will be held one evening a week for nine weeks.
Here are the details:
WHEN – Saturdays at 6:15pm after the 5:00pm Mass. (there will be light snacks and fellowship after the devotion for anyone who cares to join in)
DATES – November 9, 16, 23, 30 and December 7, 14, 21, and 28. The date and time of the final devotion will be announced later.
LOCATION – Conference rooms in the newly remodeled “Resource Center” located in the former St. James business offices.
The final evening devotion will be hosted by RC Arciga and his family with a party afterwards. R.C. prayed the “Novena To The Christ Child” while growing up in Guam with his family. Prayers and traditional hymns, are both in English and the Chamorro language of Guam.
The Novena was written by a Spanish priest, Father Roman DeVera, sometime between 1904 and 1920.
A multi-linguist who spoke Spanish, English, Filipino and Chamorro, he served in Manila and Guam from 1901 to roughly 1950. He is tied to the Capuchin order that was associated with the Franciscans.
